Switching Accounts
Guardian Pro makes it easy to move between your connected AWS accounts. The account selector in the header provides instant access to any account in your organization, and switching updates all pages and data in real time.
Using the Account Selector
The account selector is located in the top navigation bar, visible on every page. It displays the name and ID of the currently selected account, or "All Accounts" when viewing the aggregate organization view.
How to Switch
- Click the account selector in the header.
- A dropdown appears listing all connected AWS accounts.
- Select the account you want to view.
- All pages immediately update to reflect data for the selected account.
You can type in the account selector dropdown to filter accounts by name or AWS account ID. This is especially useful for organizations with many accounts.
Returning to the Aggregate View
To go back to the organization-wide aggregate view:
- Click the account selector in the header.
- Select All Accounts at the top of the dropdown list.
- All pages revert to showing combined data across your entire organization.
What Changes When You Switch
Switching accounts is a global action that affects every feature page in Guardian Pro. Here is what updates:
| Page | Behavior After Switch |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Health score, finding counts, cost summary, and compliance score update to the selected account |
| Action Centre | Findings are filtered to only show issues in the selected account |
| Cost Intelligence | Cost data, anomalies, budgets, and recommendations reflect the selected account's spending |
| Compliance | Compliance scores and control statuses are recalculated for the selected account |
| Architecture Advisor | Architecture map, risks, and failure simulations show only the selected account's resources |
| Resource Explorer | Resource inventory is filtered to the selected account |
| AI Assistant | The assistant's context is refreshed with the selected account's data, so questions are answered in the context of that account |
Switching accounts also reconnects the real-time communication channel to ensure live updates (scan progress, remediation status) are scoped to the correct account.
Account Display
Each account in the selector is shown with:
- Account name -- The friendly name from your AWS Organization (e.g., "Production", "Staging", "Dev-Team-A")
- Account ID -- The 12-digit AWS account identifier
- Status indicator -- A visual indicator showing whether the account is active, pending, or has errors
Account Ordering
Accounts are listed in the order they were discovered during onboarding. The most recently accessed accounts may appear at the top for quick access.
Persistent Selection
Your account selection persists across page navigations within the same session. If you select "Production" and then navigate from the Dashboard to the Action Centre, the Action Centre will already be showing Production data.
Your account selection is not persisted across browser sessions. When you log in again, Guardian Pro defaults to the aggregate "All Accounts" view.
Keyboard Navigation
For power users, the account selector supports keyboard navigation:
- Press the account selector to open the dropdown.
- Use the arrow keys to navigate between accounts.
- Press Enter to select the highlighted account.
- Start typing to filter the account list.
Impact on the AI Assistant
When you switch accounts, the AI Assistant automatically refreshes its understanding of your environment. This means:
- Questions about "my findings" or "my costs" refer to the selected account.
- The assistant's context includes the selected account's resources, findings, and cost data.
- If you ask a question while viewing "All Accounts," the assistant considers your entire organization.
If you need the AI Assistant to compare two accounts, stay on the "All Accounts" view and ask a comparative question, such as "Which of my accounts has the highest security risk?"
Multi-Account Workflows
Investigating a Finding Across Accounts
If you discover a type of misconfiguration in one account and want to check if it exists in others:
- Note the finding type or check name in the Action Centre.
- Switch to another account using the account selector.
- Navigate to the Action Centre and search for the same finding type.
- Repeat for each account of interest.
Alternatively, use the "All Accounts" view in the Action Centre and filter by the specific finding type to see all occurrences across your organization.
Comparing Cost Across Accounts
- Navigate to Cost Intelligence while on the "All Accounts" view to see aggregate spend.
- Switch to individual accounts to see their specific cost breakdowns.
- Use the AI Assistant to ask comparative questions like "Which account spent the most on compute last month?"
Troubleshooting
Account Not Appearing in the Selector
If a connected account does not appear in the account selector:
- Verify the account is listed in Settings > Organization.
- Check that the account's status is Active and not Error or Disconnected.
- If the account was recently added, allow a few minutes for it to appear.
- See Adding Accounts for troubleshooting connectivity issues.
Data Not Updating After Switch
If page data does not update after switching accounts:
- Refresh the browser page.
- Check your network connection -- real-time updates require an active connection.
- If the issue persists, log out and log back in.
